Spinal Decompression

Our NutriSPINE System, featuring DRX 9000 Spinal Decompression Technology

Non-surgical Spinal Decompression therapy was developed in response to the demand for safer, cost-effective alternatives to spine surgery for herniated and degenerated disks, spinal stenosis, facet syndrome,  and the serious pain and disability these conditions cause. Surgeries for chronic or severe back pain and neck pain have risen sharply in the United States in recent years. This is due to many factors, not the least of which is the increase in SECOND and THIRD surgeries (called “revision” surgeries) performed due to poor results or complications from the first surgery. Many experts believe we are NOT winning the war on back and neck pain, and some long term follow-up studies indicate no overall advantage to having surgery in the absence of significant loss of strength or the rare loss of bowel or bladder function.

Bulging, herniated, protruding or degenerated discs can inflame nerves, and this inflammation produces buttock, thigh and calf (or arm) symptoms. The leakage of powerful inflammatory chemicals from the herniated disc are responsible for most of the pain and irritation you are experiencing. It is because of these inflammatory enzymes that spinal injections have become increasingly popular. An “epidural steroid injection” (ESI) or “selective nerve root block” (SNRB) may help the irritation, swelling and pain caused by the chemical leakage, producing relief of your symptoms.  However, the relief from injections is often only temporary. Why? Because while the injection neutralizes the harmful effects of the inflammatory enzymes for a time, it DOES NOT STOP the disc from LEAKING MORE of these inflammatory enzymes!

Our Goal:  Stop Your Disk from Leaking Pain-Producing Chemicals!

There are 2 ways to stop the disk from leaking these inflammatory substances when the disk is no longer able to repair itself:

  1. Surgery — by removing the portion of the disc that is filled with these inflammatory enzymes, or
  2. Non-surgical Spinal Decompression/Invertebral Disc Distraction — by changing the way chemicals flow within the disk.

In consultation with Colorado’s trusted, preferred experts in intervertebral disc distraction you’ll learn how we help people get the pain relief they never thought possible. Our dynamic NutriSpine™ system is the most effective form of non-surgical disk therapy, producing results even after other treatments (including traction at other clinics) have failed.  And with 27 years serving our community and a leading reputation in Colorado for  integrity and clinical competence, doctors Jon Seeman, DC and Joel Carmichael, DC eliminate the confusion, providing you with honest answers about the limits and potential benefits of this specialized form of therapy.  Drs. Seeman and Carmichael, in consultation with our integrated medical team, will give you a storehouse of credible information to help you through your pain.

Intervertebral Disc Distraction (also known as non-surgical spinal decompression therapy) is not appropriate for everyone with herniated or degenerated disks and sciatica. There are many factors to consider in properly selecting patients for non-surgical interventions. Why? Because some people have a condition that is so severe they really do require surgery. Through advanced postgraduate and unique hospital-residency training, and through close working relationships with fellowship-trained spine surgeons our integrated physical medicine team will determine if our  NutriSpine™ Intervertebral Disc Distraction system is appropriate for you.  And whether or are not a good candidate for this therapy we will educate you about other alternatives we offer for your condition that may not have been offered to you up to this point, and why other doctors you have seen (if any) made the recommendations that were made.  And you’ll learn from an evidence-based non-surgical perspective what potential risks and benefits you’ll face for each of the treatment options you are considering.

Sound decision-making requires excellent education, and education takes time.  We take the time and we will answer all your questions so that you can confidently move forward in the best direction for you.  There is never any pressure or hype — only education and answers.  Terms like TFESI, SNRB, TLIF, PLIF, XLIF and TDA are confusing to most patients, and quite frankly, to many health care professionals as well.  Spine medicine is truly a sub-specialty. Because we thoroughly understand non-surgical AND surgical spine treatments we will help you sort through the confusion.  Our relaxed atmosphere and emphasis on informed, educated decision-making for our patients is unsurpassed in Colorado.
