Our Center has been using PEMFs for 5 years, providing over 15,000 sessions of this therapy in our Denver Tech Center chiropractic spine and sports medicine clinic. Cardiac surgeon Dr. Mehmet Oz, after looking at the literature, has concluded there is credibility and efficacy. The fact that it is not politically correct to espouse energetic forms of medicine in a pharmaceutical-funded health care system will bring Dr. Oz under fire. Happily, he now has the clout to speak truth without fear — and in so doing he’s joined the paradigm shift that will change the future of medicine. It’s been a pleasure helping hundreds and hundreds (and hundreds!) of people gain new levels of health through the incredible wellness potential of PEMFs!

Right now I’m on a rare mountain retreat with my wife. We’re celebrating 30+ years of marriage and her recent birthday. (I’ve done the math — if we’ve been married over 30 years, this can’t be her 29th birthday (again) can it? :-!

I’ve had an opportunity to reflect on what we have the privilege of doing every day for patients, and THE WHY that has been our driving force since Day 1. And I’ve recommitted myself to our WHY: the stuff that has made us stand apart from the crowd and makes it easy for you — our patients — to tell others they ought to give us a try.

Number One: People matter most. This isn’t original, and it existed before Dave Ramsey put it in his book “EntreLeadership” recently. Dave got this concept from it’s Author, as I did.

Number Two: Caring, Love and Service. I owe Dave Ramsey a debt of gratitude, though. He mentions, in his aforementioned book, a concept championed by Simon Sinak called The Golden Circle, and illustrated by Apple, The Wright Brothers and Martin Luther King. Feel free to check this video out — it’s right here on this post:

Simon’s point: The “Why” matters. Many people and businesses get it backwards, starting with “what,” then moving to “how,” and then trying to conjured up a “why.”

So on our retreat my wife and I are discussing life’s “Why” a lot. We agree with Dave on Number One above. And on reflection we agreed and affirmed what our lives and The Center for Spine, Sport & Physical Medicine need to be all about — caring for, loving, and serving the needs of people.

Caring for, loving, and serving others. It’s what makes us tick here. We’ll never arrive, but this WHY is at the core of all we do and all we will become in the future!

How did health care get so complicated?

My recommendation: Stay healthy so you don’t need drugs in the first place! How?

Breathe clean air

Drink and bathe in clean water

Eat low carb diet with LOTS of veggies

Exercise (moderate intensity, 4-5 days per week)

Cultivate an excellent sleep routine (Get to bed on time and don’t watch adrenaline TV before bed!)

Observe great oral hygiene (rotten teeth and gums can harm your health EVERYWHERE)

Pursue healthy, positive relationships at home and at work

Create a space, in your home, that is free of high frequency man-made radiation (appliances, gadgets, Wi-Fi, etc.)

Maintain flexibility through stretching or home yoga

Maintain adequate joint mobility through chiropractic care

I thought I’d share this from a patient this weekend. As you read, consider this: are carnivorous animals susceptible to an increased incidence of death by “heart attack” by virtue of carnivorism? Ultimately the correlation of meat-eating to heart disease must look at COOKING, and not just the meat itself. This is the factor that needs to considered as it pertains to meat in healthy human nutrition.

THE PATIENT’S EMAIL TO ME:

From: <Patient>
To: “Joel Carmichael, DC, DACBSP”
Subject: Heart Attack Free Diet

Hi Joel,

How have you been?! All is well on this end. I’ve graduated from the Ideal Protein diet and have continued on the recommended foods and I really like it. I still have the dark chocolate vice, but all else is on track and my weight is still down.

I came across this diet program on CNN: http://www.cnn.com/2011/HEALTH/08/19/heart.attack.proof.diet/index.html?hpt=hp_c2 and thought it was interesting. Since all I eat now are meat, veggies, and berries (and some nuts, apples, and dark choc), it makes me curious when I see articles that suggest eliminating meat products all together.

Any thoughts?

All the best Joel!

<Patient>

AND MY RESPONSE:

Hi <Patient Name>:

With incisive teeth, sharp nails and a full complement of pancreatic proteases to easily digest animal protein there is a stark difference between our physiology, as true carnivores, and those organisms within the animal kingdom that are non-carnivores.

Books like “Reversing Heart Disease” (Ornish) and “The China Study” (Collin Campbell) have made veganism appear more and more attractive. Sanjay Gupta, in a book called “Chasing Life” has covered a variety of topics related to longevity, etc. Not all of them relate to cultures that are purely vegan. (Example: A chapter on Okinawans in his book.)

Health is multifactorial. Carnitine, only available in red meat (not poultry or fish), helps repair tissue in special ways. It is the OVERCOOKING of red meat and the charring of red meat that lead to its well-documented ability to raise cholesterol levels and associate itself with colon cancer, respectively. For this reason popular admonishments to avoid red meat (or “meat” altogether) are well-intentioned but, in my opinion, go further than necessary — and perhaps further than is truly healthy.

C-reactive protein, cholesterol (and fractions) and triglycerides should be monitored, of course, but I do not agree that meat is NECESSARILY evil. HOW North Americans prepare their meat is not commonly viewed as a variable affecting health.

Great question!

Dr. C
